Barn Buddies is a unique program offered by Operation Horses Heal designed to bring veteran and military kids, ages 9-14, together for a series of farm days from April to August 2025. Through hands-on activities with horses and donkeys, participants gain new skills and build friendships in a welcoming environment that supports emotional resilience and confidence. Each monthly session is tailored to address the unique challenges military children face, particularly those in rural and underserved Wisconsin areas where community resources can be limited. By connecting youth with animals, nature, and each other, Barn Buddies fosters a sense of belonging, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and strengthen protective factors that benefit mental health. The program provides a memorable and supportive experience for military families and helps their children thrive.
